Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) today announced that its (NYSE: PFE) patent for the use of itsgeneric Viagra®has expired. The expiration date of the patent is set to expire on July 31, 2016, subject to FDA approval. In 2019, Pfizer reported net income of approximately $16.4 billion, or 47 cents per share, while adjusted gross profit from the patent has been approximately $9.5 billion, or 12 cents per share. The net loss was $5.5 billion, or 1% growth, versus $4.1 billion reported in 2014.
In addition, Pfizer reported its net income on August 1, 2019, based on a full-year financial guidance of $11.9 billion. This is a decrease of $2.9 billion compared to the previous full-year guidance of $16.9 billion.
Under the terms of the patent, Pfizer will no longer sell a generic version of Viagra that is not approved for use in the United States.
